to About

The Killinaboy Mapping Group was the first group to emerge from the X-PO project which began as a public art project in the former Post Office in Killinaboy in the Burren area of County Clare in 2007. Initiated by Deirdre O’Mahony, it was established as a social, cultural and community exchange where different communities could meet and learn about the place and one another.

The members of the Mapping Group set out to name and trace the occupants, roads, paths and byways of the Civil Parish of Killinaboy. This website brings to the public over a decade of this research into the houses and their occupants, making it available as a digital archive for future generations.

The group have displayed this work in exhibitions. These exhibitions have generated further pieces of valuable information.  They have contributed to community mapping workshops and the value of their work is recognised and acknowledged in the fields of Visual Culture, Irish Studies, and History. The group has made an important contribution in collecting and conserving the oral history of place.

The group wishes to express sincere thanks and appreciation to all those who provided so much invaluable information to the members of the mapping group and to all those who warmly welcomed the group into their homes.
